2. Rain continues in U.S., maybe some for Canada?: More widespread rain is expected through the U.S., though we are looking at a drier extended forecast as the month progresses. Nearby, another rain system is moving into the Great Lakes this weekend with even more showers into early next week. Additional systems are expected to add rain later in the week. Iowa and the surrounding areas may also see rain, though less than the heavy downpours seen the previous week. Wetter areas across the south and east continue to struggle to finish up any planting or do additional fieldwork. DTN Ag Meteorologist John Baranick also writes extended weather models show some much-needed rain for the Canadian Prairies and says the setup this time is a little more promising than previous ones that have disappointed farmers the last two weeks. BONUS DTN Content: The next DTN Ag Summit Webinar, themed Future of the Cowherd, is scheduled for June 24 from 10 a.m. to noon. The cattle market tends to move in 10-year cycles, but this time, the cowherd is facing a wider range of challenges to its regrowth, including trade disruptions and drought. We'll discuss how weather will affect hay supplies this year and then dive into the longer-term implications of feed availability, markets and politics on the future of the beef herd. DTN Livestock Analyst ShayLe Stewart explains what it all means for your future profitability.
